background and aim . gingival recession as the apical migration of the gingival margin that results in exposure of the cementoenamel junction (cej) and the root surface. in this case series we aimed to demonstrate a combination technique using semilunar coronally positioned flap with free gingival graft for root coverage. materials and methods . a total of 12 healthy subjects, 25-45 years of age, with gingival miller’s class i gingival recessions in maxillary incisor or premolar area were recruited for study. a semilunar incision was made in mucogingival junction following the curvature of the receded gingival margin. a sulcular split-thickness incision was made in a coronal direction so that it reached the semilunar incision and advanced as coronally. the denuded area was covered by a free gingival graft (fgg). longitudinal alterations during a follow-up period of 1, 3 and six months in terms of pocket depth (pd), recession width (rw), recession height (rh), width of keratinized tissue (kt) and clinical attachment level(cal) were tested by repeated measures analysis of variance results . a comparison between baseline and the 1, 3 and 6 months clinical outcomes of patients revealed statistically significant changes from baseline were found for pocket probing depth (p conclusion . combination of semilunar coronally positioned flap with free gingival graft met a significant clinical outcomes for root coverage.

Two-step Surgical Procedure for Root Coverage (free Gingival Graft and Coronally Positioned Flap)

Background: Gingival recessions require treatment for many reasons – impaired aesthetic appearance, root sensitivity, cervical caries or abrasion. Two surgical techniques have been described that use free gingival graft for root coverage. The technique proposed by Bernimoullin et al. involves two surgical steps. The first step consists of creating attached gingiva by means of free gingival graf...

Coronally positioned flap with subepithelial connective tissue graft for root coverage: various indications and flap designs.

Aesthetic concerns and functional abnormalities, such as dentin hypersensitivity, are often associated with gingival recession defects. Root coverage procedures aim to restore both gingival aesthetics and function in recession defects. The coronally positioned flap combined with the subepithelial connective tissue graft is one of the most widely used root coverage procedures. The present report...

Root coverage using the coronally positioned flap with or without a subepithelial connective tissue graft.

BACKGROUND Various surgical techniques have been proposed for treating gingival recession. This randomized clinical trial compared the coronally positioned flap (CPF) alone or in conjunction with a subepithelial connective tissue graft (SCTG) in the treatment of gingival recession. METHODS Eleven non-smoking subjects with bilateral and comparable Miller Class I recession defects were selected...

Comparison of conventional and semilunar coronally positioned flap techniques for root coverage in teeth with cervical abrasion restored with pink resin

Gingival recession is the most common mucogingival defect, characterized by apical migration of the gingival margin from the cementoenamel junction and root exposure. Several surgical techniques are reported for the treatment of gingival recession. Here we present a comparison of the conventional (coronally advanced flap) and semilunar coronally positioned flap techniques for root coverage in t...

Coronally Positioned Flap for Root Coverage: Comparison between Smokers and Nonsmokers.

BACKGROUND Gingival recession is significantly more common among smokers, while cigarette smoking has been shown to negatively influence healing following periodontal therapeutic procedures as compared to non-smokers. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of cigarette smoking on the outcome of coronally positioned flap (CPF) in the treatment of Miller Class I gingival recess...

Root coverage with the free gingival graft following citric acid and EDTA

Introduction: Treatment of gingival recession and root coverage of denuded roots is one of the main goals of periodontal treatment. The purpose of this study is evaluation of two root conditioning techniques: EDTA (PH=7,24%) and citric acid (PH=1) in free gingival graft procedure. Methods: In this clinical trial study, 16 patients with 24 class I, II gingival recession (Miller classification)...
